ABSTRACT:
The Heart is the centre of the cardio vascular system and it is vitally responsible for everything that gives body life ranging from the transportation of oxygen to the success of immune system. Cardio means “of the heart ‘’and Pulmonary means “of the lungs”. Resuscitation is a medical term referring to the process of reviving or restoring life. Early initiation of CPR improves the chance of successful resuscitation1. Objectives: To assess the level of knowledge regarding CPR, to evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching program on knowledge regarding CPR and to find out the association between post -test level of knowledge among B. Sc Nursing first year students with their selected socio demographic variables. Method: A quantitative approach, Pre experimental research design was adopted for this study. The sample size was 50 and the samples were selected by using purposive sampling technique. Self structured questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge regarding Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. Results: The overall mean and standard deviation of pre-test knowledge scores of respondents on Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation was found to be 9.02±2.33 and the overall mean and standard deviation of post-test knowledge scores was found to be 18.02±1.07. The ‘t’ test score was 25(p<0.05) and enhancement in the mean knowledge score was found to be significant at 5% level for all the aspects under study. There was no significant association between post-test knowledge scores and selected demographic variables. Interpretation and Conclusion: Overall findings showed that there is knowledge deficit among students regarding CPR and PTP was effective in improving their knowledge.
