ABSTRACT:
Introduction: Assertiveness is the ability to express your emotions and needs without violating the rights of others.The objectives of the study were to assess the level of knowledge regarding assertiveness among the alcoholic dependents, to assess the effectiveness of Computer Assisted Instruction on level of knowledge regarding assertiveness among the alcoholic dependents after post test and to associate the post test level of knowledge regarding assertiveness among the alcoholic dependents with their selected demographic variables. Methods: The research approach adopted was quantitative approach and the design is pre experimental one group pre test and post test design. A convenient sampling technique has been used and the sample size was 60. Assertiveness scale was used to assess the pre test level of knowledge regarding assertiveness among the alcoholic dependents. Followed by, Computer assisted instruction was given to the alcoholic dependents by dividing the samples in to 6 groups. The collected data was analyzed by using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Paired ‘t’ test was used to compare the level of knowledge regarding assertiveness among the alcoholic dependents. The obtained ‘t’ value was 18.64, the total mean value of post test was 133.65 which were higher than the total mean value of pre test 73.53. The standard deviation of post test score was 24.78 which were higher than pre test standard deviation of 20.63. The mean % value of post test value was 76 which were higher than the mean % value of pre test 42. There was a significant difference found between the level knowledge regarding assertiveness of among the alcoholic dependents (P<0.001). There was a significant association found between post level of knowledge regarding assertiveness among the alcoholic dependents and educational status (?2= 19.84, P<0.001). Conclusion: Study reveals that the Computer assisted instruction was effective among the alcoholic dependents on level knowledge regarding assertiveness. Findings of the present study revealed that the Computer assisted instruction was very effective to promote the level of knowledge regarding assertiveness among the alcoholic dependents.
