ABSTRACT:
Aims and Objectives: To find out the effect of teaching by video assisted on awareness, pre procedural anxiety level and satisfaction of patients undergoing upper Gastro intestinal endoscopy. Background: Anxiety is very much common in gastro intestinal endoscopy in majority of patients. Informing the patients about the procedure to become aware regarding the procedure and providing psychological support during procedure is one of the best method to reduce anxiety and increase satisfaction among patients undergoing upper gastro intestinal endoscopy. Design: Quasi Experimental Design. Methods: 60 patients undergoing upper gastro intestinal endoscopy were recruited for this study. The experimental group (n=30) watched a video assisted teaching programme on upper gastro intestinal endoscopy. The control group (n=30) received routine care. Results: The experimental group reported increase in awareness and satisfaction scores were increased after upper endoscopy procedure. The pre procedural anxiety level was reduced in case of experimental group also. Conclusion: The video assisted teaching programme on upper gastro intestinal endoscopy increased the awareness, reduced the pre procedural anxiety level and satisfaction of patients after completion of the procedure.
