A Comparative study on the Impact of Online and Offline Classes among the nursing students in selected colleges of nursing at Distt. Mandi (H.P).

ABSTRACT:

Education is a process of receiving or giving systematic instruction especially at schools or university. It is the process of facilitating learning or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, value moral belief and personal development. Researcher conducted “A comparative study on the impact of online and offline classes among nursing students in selected college of nursing at district Mandi [H.P]. A quantitative research approach and comparative design was used to assess the impact of online and offline class among the nursing students. Total samples of study were 200 nursing students and convenience sampling technique was used to select the sample. A self-structured questionnaire was prepared to assess the impact of online and offline classes among nursing students. The result of the study shows that 85% nursing students has average impact on online classes and 66% nursing student has good impact on offline classes. There was significant association between the score level and socio -demographic variables with type of previous medium. There is no significance association between the level of score and other demographic variables with any type of psychological health issue. The study concluded that online classes are better than offline classes.

Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.”1                      - Albert Einstein

 

Education is the process of facilitating learning or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, morals, beliefs, and habits. Education is something which makes someone self -reliant and selfless.

 

Education can take place in formal or informal setting and any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or act may be considered.2

 

E -Learning also referred to as online learning or electronic learning is the acquisition of knowledge which takes place through electronic technologies and media. Typically e-learning is conducted on internet, where students can access their learning material online at any place and time.3

 

Offline learning, traditional learning or face to face learning is the lecture and textbook method of instructional delivery where the instructor and group of learners are physically present in the same classroom. Offline teaching was the only method of teaching available before the advent of internet. A major advantage this form of teaching learning is that it provide ample personal face to face interaction between the teacher and student. These days the electronic media and internet has reaches to every nook and corner and has assumed a significant place of importance in our everyday life. It is also servings an important tool to complement traditional teaching. Attending online classes every day has become the ‘new normal’ for students during the lockdown in India. As schools were shut because of the lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, the online classes have taken center stage in student’s life now.4

 

NEED OF STUDY:

The main purpose of the study is to assess and compare the impact of online and offline learning among students. Answer to the question that online learning is as effective as offline learning depends on one's motivation and drive to succeed. Just as in an offline setting online requires homework, research, and group assignment.

 

Both face to face and online teaching has their pros and cons. So the researcher felt that it is important to assess the impact of online and offline classes because due to advancement in technology and this pandemic breakout severely affected the progress of education in student life which prompt the progress of online education.

 

Keeping in view the above finding regarding impact of online and offline classes the researcher felt that mode of teaching is a common problem face by the teacher. So it is important to know the interest of students for teaching mode. At this point it is important to find positive and systematic ways to deal with the proper mode of teaching. Based on above facts and figures researcher’s personal experience motivate to conduct the present study. The finding of present study will have its influence on impact of online and offline classes among nursing students.

 

Many educational institutes have shifted their base from physical classroom to virtual classrooms to conduct the classes. With sudden shift from physical classroom to digital platform, it is necessary to find out which one are better online classes or offline classes.

 

OBJECTIVES:

1.     To assess and compare the impact of online and offline classes among nursing students.

2.     To determine the association of level of impact score of online and offline among nursing students with their socio-demographic variables.

 
ASSUMPTION:

1.     Nursing students have some impact on online and offline classes.

2.     Rural and urban area of their habitat can change their impact for online and offline classes.

 

METHODOLOGY:

Research design- A non–experiment comparative design was use to assess the impact of online and offline classes among nursing students of district Mandi, H.P.

 

Setting- The setting of present study was selected Colleges of Nursing in, District Mandi H.P.

 

Sample- The sample of present study was comprises of 200 nursing students studied in Abhilashi College of Nursing Distt - Mandi (HP).

 

Sampling technique- In present study the sampling technique used was convenience sampling.

 

Data analysis- According to objectives, opinion of expert it was planned to organized, tabulate, analyses and interprets the data by using descriptive statistics. Frequency distribution of selected sample characteristics of the nursing students range, mean, mean percentage, median and standard deviation of impact on online and offline classes, chi square value showing association of selected sample characteristics of online and offline classes.

 

FINDINGS:

Major findings of the study include:

A.   Frequency and percentage distribution of socio demographic variables:

1.     Out of 200 nursing students’ majority of students (49.0%) were in age group of 18 to 20 years.

2.     Most of students (42.5%) studied in B.Sc nursing.

3.     Majority of students (71.5%) had English as a previous education medium.

4.     Parents of majority of students (41.0%) work in government sector and monthly family income of majority of students (35.5%) was 20001 to 30000.

5.     Majority of students (41.5%) have one sibling and majority of students (90.5%) were unmarried.

6.     Majority of students (61.5%) live in rural area.

7.     Majority in method of teaching used in offline classes (46.0%) lecture come discussion as well as similar percentage for others methods.

8.     Maximum students (91.5%) use 4G mobile network for connecting in online classes.

9.     Majority of students (91.0%) have no Physical health issue and majority of students (96.0%) show depression in psychological health issues.

 

B. Finding related to online and offline classes’ impact:

The study reveals that 85% students have average response for online classes and 66% students have good response for offline classes. 

 

C. Finding related to the Association level of impact score of online and offline nursing students with socio - demographic variables:

Finding reveals that type of previous education medium and any type of psychological health issue may influence the impact of online and offline classes among nursing students.

 

CONCLUSION:

The study conclude that 85% students have average response for online classes and 66% students have good response for offline classes and type of previous education medium and any type of psychological health issue may influence the impact of online and offline classes among nursing students.
