ABSTRACT:

Miltelschmerz is one sided lower abdominal pain associated with ovulation. The exact cause is unknown. It can feel like a sharp, or like a dull cramp. It is not dangerous, and is usually mild. It generally lasts a few hours, and for some people can last a few days.

INTRODUCTION:

Mittelschmerz is a medical term for “ovulation pain” or “mid cycle pain” About 20% of women experience mittelschmerz some every cycle, some intermittently. It occurs midway through a menstrual cycle about 14 days before your next menstrual period. In most cases mittelschmerz doen’t require medical attention.

 

DEFINITION:

Mittelschmerz is one sided lower abdominal pain associated with ovulation.

 

CAUSES:

The exact cause is unknown, but possible reason for the pain include there,

·       Increased tension of the Graffian follicle just prior to rupture.

·       Peritoneal irritation by the follicular fluid following ovulation.

·       Contraction of the tubes and uterus.

·       Cyst on the ovaries.

 

OVULATION PAIN AND UNDERLYING MEDICAL PROBLEMS:

Severe and prolonged ovulation pain or other pain felt in the lower abdomen can be symptomatic of various medical conditions including

·       Salphingitis

·       Pelvic inflammatory disease

·       Endometriosis

·       Ovarian cyst

·       Ectopic pregnancy

·       Appendicitis

 

SYMPTOMS:

·       Abdominal tightness

·       Abdominal tenderness

·       Spotting

·       Fever

·       Vomiting

·       On one side of lower abdomen pain may be sharp and sudden, dull and cramp like pain.

·       Mild vaginal bleeding.

·       Pain lasts from few hours to 2- 3 days.

 

DIAGNOSIS:

·       Abdominal examination

·       Pelvic examination

·       USG

·       Trans vaginal pelvic ultrasound

·       Blood test

·       Medical history

·       Cervical culture

·       Exploratory surgery (Laproscopy or keyhole surgery).

 

TREATMERNT:

1 Wait it out:

If your symptoms are minor, if they tend disappear quickly. Don’t need do anything to all.

 

2 Take over the counter pain relievers.

·       Ibuprofen

·       Naproxen

·       Acetaminophen

 

3 Use heat:

Apply the heating pad to the lower abdomen. The heat works it enhances blood flow to the area of pain, relaxes the muscles and releases cramp.

 

4. Cold Pack:

Cold compress can help to alleviate pain

 

5 Consider taking birth control pills.:

 

6 Watch for symptoms of a more serious problem.:

 

TIPS OF RELIEVING OVULUATION PAIN:

·       Drink plenty of water

·       Dehydration can make the cramping pain more intense

·       Take warm bath. It help the to relieve pain.

 

CONCLUSION:

Ovulation pain, sometimes called miltelschmerz, can feel a sharp, or like a dull cramp, and happens on the side of the abdomen. where the ovary is releasing an egg (1-3days). It is not dangerous, and is usually mild. It generally lasts a few hours, and for some people can last a few days.
