ABSTRACT:
NURCON 2018 – “Nursing is Healthcare –The Road to Achieve Excellence” was organized by Nursing Team of Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital Powai, Mumbai, India on 27th October 2018 at Hotel Sahara Star Mumbai. Conclave was conducted with the intention to throw highlight on -Nursing brings Care in Healthcare. A total of 371 members participated. Different sessions were conducted along with Panel discussion and intercollegiate competition to prepare future leaders in nursing. This was the third event and it gave new insight to nurses that Nursing is Healthcare.

INTRODUCTION:
A registered trademark of Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, NurCON 2018 will host leaders in nursing healthcare. Through these visionary we seek to plant, in the minds of future nursing leaders, seeds that will burst forth with ground breaking ideas that will change the world. After all, nursing brings the “CARE” in healthcare. This is the third event conducted by the hospital.
Planning Phase:
The planning of NurCON 2018 on Nursing is Healthcare –The Road to Achieve Excellence was planned under the exemplary guidance of our CEO Dr. Sujit Chatterjee.
The Chairperson of the conclave Capt. Valsa Thomas, Director Nursing prepared the outline and the conclave was coordinated by Ms. Saly Suseel organizing secretary.
The chairperson and the organizing secretary formed the committee for the conclave. The committee members were:
1) Ms. Asmita Garate – Treasurer
2) Ms. Elizabeth Thomas - Stage Cordinator
3) Ms. Binu Gigimon- Guest Cordinator
4) Ms. Florence D’souza- Host
5) Mr. Pankaj Punjot- Host
6) Ms. Manisha Lokhare-Invitation, Deligate bags, Registration.
7) Ms. Sunanda Khanvilkar-Invitation, Deligate bags, Rgistration
8) Ms. Mary Joykutty- OrganizingCertificatesfor all delegates and resource persons.
Several meetings were conducted with committee members for finalizing the topic subtopic, date and venue, speakers, chief guest, invitees, budget and program flow. Finally date and venue was finalized as 27th October 2018 at Hotel Sahara Star, Andheri.
The highlights of NurCON were decided and as first step the website for NurCON 2018 and brochure were created.
The chairperson and secretary distributed the responsibility to the committee members. The committee members decided the fees for the delegates:
Early Bird Registration:
PG Students - Rs750
Staff Nurses – Rs 1500
Spot Registration:
PG Students – Rs 1000
Staff Nurses – Rs 2000
The speakers were selected from the national levels who were expert in that specialty according to experience and their scientific work along with the presentation on other forum. For each topic two speakers were chosen. Backup readiness was also planned to meet any dire situations.
The schedule was prepared for one day program in which four sessions were decided along with the panel discussion. In each session there were three speakers and the chairperson and the panel discussion comprising moderator and five panelists.
The topics and the invitation were sent to the resource persons for their acceptance. After confirmation arrangements for travel and accommodation was also done.
The chief guest for the conclave was shortlisted and invitation was sent and Prof. Dr. Shashikala Wanjari, Vice Chancellor, SNDT University accepted our invitation for the conclave. The guest of Honor was Ms. Swapna Joshi, Nursing Superintendent TATA Memorial Hospital, Recipient of Florence Nightingale award in 2017from Honorable President.
Invitation was sent to all hospitals via e mail, SMS, brochures and direct approach by the team members. Invitation was also extended to TNAI, Maharashtra Nursing Council and well known nursing homes.
Conclave Day:
Registration:
Three counters were opened for registration. To manage the crowd the counter was divided in alphabetic order (as per name of hospitals)
90 % was early bird registration so it was easy to finish the formalities and manage the crowd. 262 nurses from 41 Hospitals and 50 post graduate students of ten Nursing Colleges across the state registered for the conclave. The total attendance including the resource persons and committee members were 371.
Volunteers received the guests and escorted to the conference hall. Seats were reserved for VIPs and resource persons. All the registered candidates reached on time.
The program started exactly at 9.30 as per the schedule.

Intercollegiate competition:
As part of the conclave an intercollegiate competition for final year BSc Nursing Students was organized on 22nd Sept 2018 at Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital. 19 students from ten colleges participated. The topic was "Perspective on the Future of Nursing”. Eminent panel of judges selected the best two and they both were given chance to present during the conclave. The winner was adjudged by eminent leaders and the winning college lifted the trophy and a gift cheque of Rs 25,000/-
Conclave Session:
The conclave was inaugurated at the hands of Prof Shashikala Wanjari, Vice-Chancellor and Honorary Colonel of SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai and Ms. Swapna Joshi, – Professor, College of Nursing, Tata Memorial Hospital. The event was also graced by Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani – Co-founder and MD, Hiranandani Group, Dr Sujit Chatterjee, CEO, Dr LH Hiranandani Hospital, Capt. Valsa Thomas, Director Nursing and Chairperson NurCon2018.
While addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dr. Shashikala Wanjari emphasized the significance of nurses’ role in health care. Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani appreciated the nursing fraternity by his mesmerizing talk. “Nursing has always been very close to my heart” he said. He also reminded staying current in technological advances, medical practices and laws regarding nursing is necessary for all nurses, regardless qualification or experience. He encouraged everyone to ensure their skills stay up-to-date to ensure patients receive quality treatment. Organizing and attending seminars and conferences like NurCON 2018 will enrich one’s skill and knowledge he commended.
The topics discussed at the conclave included leadership, technology and digitization, emerging and changing roles of nurses, legal aspects, safety of patients, collaborative nursing and challenges and opportunities in nursing profession. The chairperson took lead in each session and summarized at the end. After each session all members were felicitated. Between sessions there was lucky dips in which the delegate got one lucky prize from the organizing committee.
The panel discussion was the icing on the cake. Everybody enjoyed and appreciated the same. The topic was Nursing Profession – The Future. The discussion was moderated by Dr Sujit Chatterjee and the panel included Dr. Niel Sequira, Head HR, KDA Hospital, Dr Parag Rindani, Centre Head and AVP WockhardtHospitalsLtd, Dr. Lalitha Krishnaswamy, Principal, Dayananda Sagar University, Dr Rita Lakhani, Principal, Fortis Institute of Nursing, Dr. Meera Acharekar, Professor and Nursing Superintendent, ACTREC.
The conclave was concluded successfully with valedictory function and certificates were handed over to the delegates and speakers.
Feed Back:
Towards the end feedback was collected from all the participants to evaluate and understand the experience and suggestions of the participants. Mostly Delegates appreciated the topics selection, excellent speakers and presentations, Ambience, time managements, effective coordination and team work. Highly impressed with the address by Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani. The innovative ideas of lucky dips and participation of young students was also appreciated. The panel discussion gave new insight to all nurses for their future.
CONCLUSION:
We at Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital has successfully completed a Nursing Conclave specifically addressed to bring about Excellence in Nursing and to enforce the message that it is Nursing that brings the ‘Care’ in healthcare. Over all NurCON 2018 was a grand success and outstanding conclave. It was best of its kind that boosted the morale and standard of nurses. The conclave paves the way to professional heights. NurCON 2018 had wide local press coverage too.
